I hope you all have had a wonderful week. I finished my last week of school but I still have two projects due and one final due next week, I will be officially done on Thursday. I couldn't be anymore excited for my mini summer vacation. I am looking forward to relaxing and watching King of The Hill. This week was pretty great considering I only had to go to school until Wednesday. I had two finals to worry about but they were really easy. I also decided to cut my hair and have a new look for summer. It gets extremely hot here in the RGV so cutting five to six inches off my hair was a must. It feels nice and healthy now, I love it. I spent yesterday running around town finding gifts for my mom for Mother's Day and then I surprised her when she got home with fresh roses in a cute vase, a bottle of moscato (her favorite wine), mini cheesecake and a giant card thanking her for everything that she does. It was nice to surprise her and she really appreciated it. Then, last night I spent the evening with my family at a BBQ for my cousin Ashley's birthday. It was a fun evening filled with food and good laughs and the family time I always cherish. Now that summer is approaching I'm hoping to hang out with my girlfriends, it's been over a month since we've hung out because we were all busy.. but I definitely need some friend time in my life. I hope we are able to catch up soon. Until then, I'm looking forward to my New York trip with Eddie. Just 17 more days! I'm super excited! I can't believe it's almost time, I need to start planning an itinerary and buy some new luggage. Well, thank you all for reading. I'm going to start getting ready for a wedding in a bit for my second cousin. Have a lovely day!
[It's hard for me to smile because my mouth is sore. Also, I wore a very comfy outfit today.]
Ouch! Going to the Dentist is always an awful experience for me. I had all four wisdom teeth extracted yesterday and I was in so much pain all evening. I was also numb for about twelve hours! I'm glad it's all over now but I still have to go back and remove the stitches later in the week. I'm also still dealing with soreness and pain because the medicine they prescribed me isn't strong at all. Oh well, I'm trying to power through it. I just wish I could eat! I've only been able to eat liquids and soft foods. I do get to eat a lot of ice cream though and that makes me happy. Luckily, I have a sweet and caring boyfriend to take care of me all weekend. He's been so nice and helpful while my family is out of town. Today, while Eddie went to work out I was bored of being in the house all day yesterday and today so I took a little shopping trip to Forever 21 and got some cute shoes and two dresses. I'm glad I got to get out for a bit. After that I just came back home and I've been studying and doing homework since then. I already finished with one class and have two exams this coming week. The semester is almost over guys! I hope you've had a great weekend.
P.S. Django Django has a new album coming out on May 4th! I'm excited and I hope it's as great or greater than their self-titled album.
This weekend I visited Austin for Moontower Comedy Festival. It was a lot of fun and much needed time away from school. It was weird to be back in Austin, everyone has been keeping it weird I suppose. (lame joke) Anyways, it's crazy to see how much the city has grown since I haven't been around. I'm not sure how it's going to be when I move in December or January. I'm not sure I'm quite ready for all the traffic I have to deal with and the amount of people in such a small city. Anyway, back to my weekend..since I had an exam on Friday I couldn't leave until I finished with my exam and then Eddie and I took off to Austin. We left Edinburg around 1:00 p.m. and arrived in Austin just before 6:00 p.m. and somehow managed to miss all the traffic which is rare, especially when you are going through San Antonio. As soon as we got to Austin we quickly checked into our private room on the east side. Then we headed downtown to Stateside for Dr. Katz Live. The show was great and then Eddie and I decided to go have long island iced coffees at Halcyon before our next show at midnight. The long islands gave us some much needed energy after the long drive and we headed to The Paramount for T.J. Miller and Pete Holmes. While we were waiting in line we saw Marc Maron and Eddie got to say hi to him and shake his hand. I just kind of froze and stared at him because I am constantly listening to his podcast WTF and it was cool to see him as a real person, I was a little starstruck lol. The show went great, I love T.J. Miller I think he's hilarious and I also love him Silicon Valley. I also got to see Pete Holmes for the second time who has only gotten funnier since I saw him film his Comedy Central Presents a couple of years ago. After the show we went home for some much needed sleep. The next day we slept in until around 11:00 a.m., got ready and then picked up some food before we started the day. We hung out with Eddie's best friend Pete and our friend Jason stopped by and we discussed comedy, new films and television. It was a lot of fun and then we Eddie and I went to hang out with my friend Marissa for a bit. She was house sitting at this awesome house just west of sixth street and we just watched TV, talked and had some alcoholic beverages. After our hang out we went to check out Waterloo, Whole Foods and then had to attend another stand up show in the evening. We saw Todd Barry at Stateside and he was hilarious of course. The next day, we woke up early to go watch Ex Machina with Oscar Isaac at The Alamo Drafthouse. The movie was intense, different and based on A.I. I thought it was really great and I pretty much love any movie with Oscar Isaac because he is such a wonderful actor. Before we left Austin we grabbed coffee from Thunderbird and then hung out with Eddie's best friend Pete again and his girlfriend Erika. Then it was time for the six-hour drive home because of an accident on the way back home that caused traffic to not move for over an hour. It was the worst drive I've ever had to do. It was hard to re-adjust to school life as soon as I got back. I had to complete Spanish homework, work on a Power Point presentation and write five essays that are due tomorrow. I keep telling myself just a few more days of school left and I can do it. I can't wait for school to be over with, the last class day is Wednesday and can't come soon enough. Stay strong guys, the semester is almost over!
P.S. Are you all ready for The Avengers: Age of Ultron? I know I am! I'll be at the theater this Thursday for a showing. I can hardly wait!

Lovely Day - Alt-J
I've been listening to this song a lot lately, it's beautiful and makes me feel great..
[My story! Pick it up if you go to UTPA, Moontower Tickets, Gallery Photo, Missing Roosevelt's beer and food, homemade frappes I made with Mia and Jade]
Hello everybody!
Last time I posted I was a little moody. I think it's easy to tell when I'm frustrated with how things are going. I'm doing much better now. School and writing for the newspaper can just get frustrating at times and I get upset.I tend to have little mental breakdowns every now and then. I also haven't been doing much or going out so you can imagine how much I feel the need just to have fun and escape for a bit. I've literally just been so busy that I haven't been able to enjoy spending time with my boyfriend or my friends. This week is actually going to be a pretty easy week and I am so happy about that. I did get printed in The Pan American last week and that was pretty cool. I also just finished writing a 24 page research paper yesterday. I've been writing for school a lot and it sucks, but I'm an English major and a reporter so I don't have a choice. This week I just need to focus on getting my spreads done on InDesign for the UTPA Gallery Literary & Arts Magazine. We are going to print next week! Gallery is probably my favorite class, my professor is letting us design the magazine however we like and as a class we picked all the poetry, essays, prose and art for the magazine. If you are a UTPA student I highly suggest you pick it up when it's available. We took pictures today for the magazine and that was fun. Anyways, you guys have no idea how excited I am for this upcoming weekend. I am going to Austin for Moontower Comedy Festival with Eddie on Friday! I have tickets for Dr. Katz and Marc Maron will be doing an appearance, also going to T.J. Miller, Pete Holmes and Todd Barry. We are going to leave Friday as soon as I finish with my exam. Then it's time to enjoy a fun weekend of comedy, cold drinks and yummy food. I'm so glad that Eddie and I decided to go and that it's only a few days away. I am not looking forward to next weekend at all. I am getting four wisdom teeth extracted on a Friday which means I'll probably just be cooped up at home in pain all weekend. Finally the semester is coming to an end and we only have a couple of weeks. I am so ready for the semester to be over and I only have one final to worry about. I hope you all are doing well and have a great week/weekend! I know I will! :)
P.S. Are you guys watching Daredevil on Netflix? It's AMAZING!
I don't have many pictures to post because I haven't been taking many lately. I'd rather just enjoy the moment without having to be on my phone every second of every day. I did snap a few pictures of my dog the other day. We've been spending a lot of time together when I'm not in school. It's crunch time, the spring semester is about to end. I'm thankful for Ferd, I love my dog so much and I appreciate him always being by my side. At times when you're stressed out and frustrated all you really need is your best friend.
That's all for now, hope you all are doing well.
P.S. listen to Courtney Barnett's new album 'Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit' it's a wonderful album that shows her true artistry.
It's quite odd the feelings and emotions you go through when you are drinking. It brings about a person in which you truly not are. The being within you, the non being. The someone you aspire or don't aspire to be. I don't drink that often or maybe I do. In the eyes of my parents I may drink too often. Sometimes, I can drink too much. I don't see it as a problem. I think it's normal, it's a part of my social life. I enjoy drinking a beer and having intellectual conversations. When the drops of alcohols trickle down my throat the thoughts of news, films, politics, music and podcasts come to fruition. In a way, drinking brings out a side of you that may be unfamiliar. A side in which, you can truly be yourself. I'm quite shy but if I've had a few beers try keeping me quiet. It varies though, alcohol is a weird drug. A dangerous drug that can easily be life threatening. It's odd how strongly it's encouraged to drink. Drinking can lead to alcoholism and even your own death. That's something you don't often hear when you are at a restaurant or a bar. I recently visited a liquor store to purchase a four pack of craft beer and it had been two years since I set foot into a liquor store. I thought about the guy standing in line behind me. Does he come here often? Is he attending a party this evening, or is he drinking alone? A thought that left my mind to wonder. It's so normal and okay to drink. You're an American, dammit. You are free to do what you want. Haha, I hope you can sense my sarcasm. I was listening to Marc Maron's podcast with Robin Williams last night and it was probably the saddest interview I've ever heard. The true struggle of an unhappy man speaking about alcohol and cocaine as if it was okay. They even talked about suicide. It deeply saddened me. Such a successful and inspiring actor dealing with alcoholism and drug addiction. It made me wonder if you can ever truly be happy and satisfied with life...
Before I start off this blog post I want
to say...Thank You!I'm over 3,000 views now! How awesome
is that? I know I don't update as often as I should but I am so thankful for
you all reading my post. It means a lot to me that someone is actually taking
time out of their day to read a blog post I wrote. You all are awesome, thanks
again!
Now, let's recap…as you all know I
celebrated Valentine's Day on February 13th with my boyfriend and it was a
great day. I bought a cute dress from Target, curled my hair and got the
perfect valentine's gift for my love. We spent the entire day together. We had
lunch at Cheddar's which meant yummy food and good mixed drinks. After that, we
exchanged gifts (Eddie knows me too well), napped and just hung out the rest of
the day. I think the most important part of Valentine's Day is just being with
the person you love and letting them know how much they mean to you.
[Ugh, for some reason all these photos are blurry. I'm sorry. :(]
I also recently celebrated my 23rd
Birthday. Yes, I am getting old! Eddie got me a GoPro and I love it. I've been wanting an action cam for awhile now. I can't wait to
share all my videos with you all. It was a fun birthday and I felt lots of love
from my family, friends and boyfriend. I spent my actual birthday with Eddie at
South Padre Island. We planned a trip to the beach and book a hotel room at The
Pearl -South Padre. The hotel was nice, cheap and even had a balcony with a
beautiful view of the ocean. We started off the day at the Padre Island Brewery
with burgers and beers. Unfortunately, I was sick so I was only able to drink
one beer. I still managed to have fun even though I couldn't breathe, had
chills and a fever. After lunch, we hung out in the room. Watched the waves
from the balcony and had dinner at Blackbeard's. It was the perfect day...minus
being sick.
On Saturday, we drove back from the beach
and relaxed a bit before we went out with friends in the evening. It was
recently my best friend Sarah's birthday also so we all got together with our
friend B'yanka and her boyfriend Gabe to drink, eat and celebrate turning
twenty-three. First, we went to happy hour at 'The Quarter' and then we went to
our usual spot 'Roosevelt's at 7.' The evening was filled with laughs and good
conversations. I really missed hanging out with my friends. It's funny how we
all are so busy with our own lives but when we get together it's like we've
never been apart. That's how you know you're true friends...and I'm very
thankful for having them in my life.
Then, on Sunday I spent the day in bed. I
was still sick and exhausted from such an eventful weekend. I got a lot of rest
and then went shopping at a local boutique 'Shop 112' where Sarah works and
then I stopped at 'Barnes & Noble' to look at Wes Anderson books that I
want but don't have the money for. :'( (They are like $40 each). I will
eventually buy them, Wes is one of my favorite film directors and I just find
him fascinating.
This week has been a little slow. I've
just been going to school and doing homework and whatnot. But, guess what?! On
Monday, I purchased a flight to New York City! I will be going with Eddie on
May 27 - June 2 and we will be staying in Brooklyn. Not many of you may know
this but I am in love with Brooklyn. My favorite beer and coffee is from
Brooklyn and I've only briefly visited a few years ago. I'm excited to finally
stay for a week. I feel like Brooklyn is a place where I can see myself living
for a few years. (Fingers crossed) So far, I made reservations at 'The Comedy
Cellar' which is an iconic stand-up comedy room where famous comics have
performed such as Louis C.K., Todd Barry, Ray Romano, Dave Chappelle, Chris
Rock, etc. Just to be in a room where all those famous comics once stood on
stage is going to be an amazing experience for me. I've loved and admired
comedians for years and I can't wait to see stand-up at the famous comedy room
in New York City. I also got tickets for the new Comedy Central show 'The
Nightly Show' hosted by the extremely funny and witty, Larry Wilmore. Right
now, I am still working on getting some tickets to 'The Daily Show' hosted by
Jon Steward but since he recently announced that he is leaving every show has
been sold out weeks in advance. (Wish me luck on scoring those free tickets!) I
seriously can't wait for this trip. We will also plan to celebrate Eddie's 24th
birthday at Brooklyn Brewery. We might plan a day trip via Bolt Bus to D.C.,
Philly, or Boston. Plus, of course visiting all of the museum and hopefully
catching an Off-Broadway play I'm looking forward too, 'Fun Home' based on a
graphic memoir I read a couple of years ago by Alison Bechdel. My best friend
Alyssa that lives in Philly also plans on joining us in the city. We have so
many plans already and it's barely March. Now, I just have to patiently wait
eighty-three days. :( It sounds like a lot but these months have been flying
by.
Tomorrow, I have my first story to cover
for 'The Pan American' over Student Film Projects at UTPA. I am excited to
cover a story that I am interested in, I love film (It would have been my minor
but since I want to graduate ASAP, I stuck with boring Anthropology). I'm a
little nervous because I have to interview people I’ve never met and I tend to
be shy but as a reporter you are forced to step out of your shell. It's also a
little nerve-wrecking because the event ends at 8:00 p.m. and my editor wants
the story e-mailed and ready for editing by midnight. Wish me luck guys!
Thank you all for reading! I appreciate it.
Lastly, I'll leave you with a short video I made from my Birthday Weekend with my new GoPro. I hope you enjoy it! :p
Hi readers! Guess what? I'm going to put my writing skills to some use finally. I'm officially a new writer for my university newspaper, The Pan American. They were glad to accept me and I start reporter training soon. I've never done reporting before and I am ecstatic and ready to learn. This opportunity gives me the chance to dabble into reporting and write, of course. Also, I'll eventually start getting paid to write for school. How cool is that?! Now that I am almost twenty-three it's important for me to start learning new skills, volunteer and begin internships. I'm happy to say that I'll be doing all of them and I'll be extremely busy. I know it will be worth it to gain experience and to hopefully land a job as soon as I graduate. I still plan on attending graduate school but for that I am going to need money which means getting a higher paying job after graduating is much needed. I'm finally putting myself out there. I feel like I'm breaking out of my shell and doing things I'm not normally comfortable doing (aka talking to people, lol). My ultimate goal in my future career is to keep on writing and hopefully write for a magazine or newspaper. I know I can't do that where I currently live. I'm ready to venture out in the world and find my place. I can't wait to graduate. Here's to good things happening. (raises plastic cup filled with nothing) I hope you all are doing lovely!
I hope you've been lovely. I miss writing in my blog, I always say it. I've just been trying to stay away from social media and sharing too much but then I figured it's not like I have many readers. I shouldn't care and I should just write what I feel whenever I want. So, I'm going to do that.
In December, I went to Denver, Colorado with Eddie. We had a great time. I did get altitude sickness which made me nauseated and sleepy my entire vacation. I still managed to enjoy myself because the city was pretty spectacular. We had great food, enjoyed museums (my favorite was the art museum), watched a film, visited book stores and record stores, went on a microbrew tour (super fun) and had another good airbnb experience.
After we returned back to Edinburg, it was time for the holidays. The holidays are less exciting the older you get. No one puts up lights anymore and everyone has fake trees. I still had fun with my family and I love buying gifts for my family, friends and boyfriend.
Then, In January I started my spring semester of school at UTPA. I am finally on track to graduate in December 2015. I'm super excited about that but also nervous about applying to graduate school. I know that I can't stay in Edinburg for my masters. I don't think I could handle it (I've been here long enough), I'm also getting too old to live at home. I also have to start studying for my GRE and I'm unsure about how many months I should study and when to take it. Oh well, I'll figure it out. This semester I'm taking eighteen hours and I have four upper level English courses, Spanish and Formal Logic. I'm managing my time well, I have reading and homework pretty much every day so it's hard to find time outside of school. I'm tired all the time now.
Besides that, everything is going well. I can't believe it is already February. Valentine's Day is coming up and Eddie and I are planning on going out to eat the day before during the afternoon. I can't stand crowds and waiting so going out on the day before sounds like a much better plan. February is also my birthday month. I'm not that excited to turn twenty-three. I feel so old, I guess I look young so that's a good thing.
Lately, I've been enjoying Parks and Recreation. The show is back for its seventh and final season. I already cried in the past few episodes that aired I don't think I can handle the finale. I'm sure I'll be crying the entire last episode, lol. I've also gotten into Marc Maron's podcast 'WTF' and I also listened to 'Serial' from This American Life. If you like hearing from your comedians and celebrities and how they started their career then listen to WTF. If you like hearing about serial killers and want to feel involved in a case then listen to Serial. They are both really interesting. Anyways, I'm rambling now here is a few of my favorites I can't get enough of lately.
I hope you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving last week. I spent it surrounded by family and yummy food. I can't believe Christmas is just in a few weeks. Right now, I am bombarded with finals and projects but I'm done on Tuesday and then I'll be in Denver with Eddie for six days. I've been in need of a vacation and it is probably going to snow. I'm so excited! Then once I return I need to start Christmas shopping, studying for my PTC exam and spending time with friends and family. The holidays are a time to reflect and realize all you have to be thankful for, the following is what I'm thankful for.
This year I am thankful for:
My family, no matter what I always their support. They truly want to see me success in life and will do anything for me.
My dog, he can be needy and slobbery but he is still my favorite furry best friend in the entire world.
My boyfriend, our relationship grows stronger day by day. He is willing to do anything for me and has proven to be the best boyfriend each and every day.
My friends, I don't have many of them but the ones the select few that I do have all have a special place in my heart. I know that I don't hang out with them enough but they mean a lot to me and I hope the holidays bring us all closer again.
My home, my bed, my car. I am lucky and fortunate to have a roof over my head, my own bed and my own car. Not many people have the same luxuries as I do and I'm truly thankful for this.
Books, I've been buried in books this year. I have a new found love for reading and it has helped me develop my vocabulary and I've gained so much knowledge.
I'm also thankful for having the opportunity to travel. I've been to Seattle twice, Las Vegas, Portland and I'm constantly going to Austin. It has given me the opportunity to be open minded, not be so shy and immerse myself in a city that I've never been to.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season. Be thankful and kind. Don't ever take anything for granted. Be safe out there my lovely readers.
Lastly, I'll leave you with my favorite song/album/artist this year. Enjoy!
